All India Quota (AIQ) for NEET MBBS Admissions

1. What is the All India Quota (AIQ)?

The All India Quota (AIQ) is a system under which 15% of MBBS and BDS seats in government medical and dental colleges are filled through a national counselling process. Students from any state can compete for these seats based on their NEET rank, regardless of domicile. Medical Counselling Committee

2. Who conducts AIQ counselling?

AIQ counselling is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The entire process is online and centralized. Medical Counselling Committee

 

3. What seats are included under MCC counselling?

MCC counselling covers:

• 15% AIQ seats of government medical colleges

• AIIMS seats across India

• JIPMER seats

• BHU medical seats

• AMU medical seats (as per applicable rules)

• Deemed Universities

• Certain Central Universities and ESIC seats

4. Can I participate in AIQ counselling if I am applying through my state quota also?

Yes.

A student can participate in both AIQ counselling and State Quota counselling simultaneously. Applying for AIQ does not prevent participation in state counselling. In fact, most serious candidates participate in both to maximize their chances of admission. The Times of India

5. Do I need a domicile certificate for AIQ seats?

Generally, no domicile is required for AIQ seats because they are open to candidates from all states. Admission is primarily based on NEET rank, category, reservation eligibility, and seat availability.

 

6. Are reservations available under AIQ?

Yes.

AIQ follows reservation policies for eligible candidates, including:

• SC

• ST

• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)

• EWS

• PwD

Reservation benefits are available subject to valid certificates and MCC rules applicable for that admission year. 

 

7. How does seat allotment happen in AIQ counselling?

Seat allotment is based on three factors:

1. NEET All India Rank

2. Category/Reservation status

3. College preferences filled by the candidate

A higher-ranked candidate gets priority over a lower-ranked candidate for the same seat. Therefore, careful choice filling is extremely important. The Times of India

 

8. How many rounds are conducted in AIQ counselling?

Typically, MCC conducts multiple rounds:

• Round 1

• Round 2

• Round 3 (Mop-Up Round)

• Stray Vacancy Round

Students who do not get a seat in earlier rounds may still receive allotments in later rounds depending on vacancies and rank.

 

9. What are the major advantages of AIQ counselling?

AIQ offers several benefits:

10. Should every NEET-qualified student participate in AIQ counselling?

In most cases, yes.

Even if a student's primary target is a seat through state quota, participating in AIQ counselling creates additional opportunities and can significantly increase the number of colleges available for consideration.
